Godaddy is one of the easiest hosting service that a startup can use. But when your app grows into millions of happy users, the backend starts to smoke. That’s the first sign that you need to push your servers to a new level.

Our first taste of Amazon Web Services (AWS)

The first time we checked the aws management console, we spend an hour appreciating all the services they provide and then closed it. Why? because we didn’t know, where the heck to click! That’s when youtube came to our rescue — AWS Tutorials. :)

After a few sessions of trial and error, we successfully set up a single server and were very happy with our work. All our work was focussed on becoming successful. But the funny thing about success is that, it comes to you when you are least prepared. Success came to us in the form of Top Developer Badge on Google Play. Bloody Hell! Our server load spiked 10 times. I still remember the sleepless night Benny & me took turns restarting the server to keep it online. That night we decided to learn aws for good, so that we could sleep happily in the future.

In the next week we forged an armour from the Udemy ‘AWS Solutions Architect’ Course. It was one of the most well spend week i can remember. Since then we have always been able to hold down the fort. We surfed the wave during the Editor’s Choice award like pro’s. It was a hell lot more than the last one, as we were already a Top Developer. Seeing the servers being automatically created and removed was a treat to the eye. It’s like witnessing a wave crashing on the hard rocks and then going back to ocean calmly. It was pretty awesome, we were so happy and slept damn well.

Until we found a leak in the granary!

Part 2 — coming soon!
